City of Cambridge Maryland Historic West End DistrictThe Cambridge Office of Housing and Community Development operates within the Department of Public Works.

The office was established in 2008 in response to a growing need for affordable housing options, historic preservation, and better access to state and federal programs designed to cultivate better housing. These include revitalization programs for families of limited means, access to funds for temporary or permanent improvements for handicapped access, and various assistance programs for first time home buyers.

The office also initiates Community Development activities, including community organization, grant documentation and administration, and management of the City’s Maple Street Program, which was designated in 2009 as a Maryland Smart Site.
